Day 2: I for Invitation
Begin with a couple of minutes of stillness and silence, to let go of the things on your mind and to become aware of God’s presence.
READ 2 Peter 1: 10-11 (MSG)
So, friends, confirm God’s invitation to you, his choice of you. Don’t put it off; do it now. Do this, and you’ll have your life on a firm footing, the streets paved and the way wide open into the eternal kingdom of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Invitations can present a challenge! Who to invite? Who to exclude? How many to send? Once these questions have been decided and the invitations have been sent, the next challenge is getting replies. Some people are diligent in responding but others are more lackadaisical!
In previous generations the etiquette around invitations was more clear cut, but today, especially with the younger generation there is a more relaxed approach which often results in responding at the last minute or changing an acceptance, into an apology for absence at the eleventh hour.
God chooses us to be part of his kingdom, he invites us to accept his offer of life now and eternal life to come. His invitation is to everyone and anybody, he has no restrictions on budget or space!
- Reflect back to when you accepted his invitation.
- What were the circumstances?
- How did you feel?
- What impact on your life did it have at the time?
- How does being part of his kingdom impact your life now?
Choose a word, phrase, or even the whole verse to silently ponder on. Turn it over and over in your mind and see what God will show you through it. Who in your social circle does God want to extend his offer of life to?
PRAY the Lord’s Prayer
Carry your chosen word/phrase/verse into the day with you and repeat it at intervals during the day.
Make a note of the insights you gained from this verse in your journal.
