Facing the Challenge

The ‘Facing the Challenge’ series is a reflection on 2 Chronicles 20:1-30, under the headings of priority, prayer, prophecy, praise and plunder. How can considering this passage equip us for the challenges that life presents?

Facing the Challenge - Facing the Challenge: Introduction

While the books of Samuel and Kings, in the Old Testament, tell the story of Israel’s kings, the writer of Chronicles looks at the same events, but from another perspective and with a particular emphasis on the themes of worship and kingship.

Over the coming week, we will look at 2 Chronicles 20:1-30, under the headings of priority, prayer, prophecy,  praise and plunder and consider and reflect together, how the message of this chapter can impact our lives and equip us for the challenges that life presents.

I cannot pinpoint exactly when I read this chapter for the first time, but I know it was key to facing the challenge of a deportation order in Asia, shortly after we had arrived to work with the Leprosy Mission and the principles have become for me, a way of coping with a variety of challenges ever since.

I would like to invite you to read 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 a couple of times in order to gain an overview of the story.  When you have done so, make a note of any verses which the Lord highlights to you.  Then, ponder on these and listen to what the Lord would say to you through them. Record the insights in your journal.
