Written Reflections

Beside the Sea

Summer and seaside are, in my mind, as closely connected as fish and chips and bucket and spade! Growing up in the south of England, the journey to the seaside only took an hour and we would frequently go for day trips in the summer. So, given that we are now in the season of summer, our theme for the next fortnight will be BESIDE THE SEA. We will look at this by taking a theme for each letter of the phrase: B for beach, E for encourage, S for sea, I for insight, D for drown, E for enjoyment, T for tired, H for harbour, E for exit, S for sky, E for everywhere, and A for always.

Beside the Sea - A for Always

A for Always

In a world which is fast paced and swiftly changing, it is reassuring to know that, there are some elements that are always the same. The Bible tells us that, ‘As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.’ Genesis 8:22(NIV), and also that, ‘God, who is enthroned from of old … does not change.’ Psalm 55:19 (NIV). Furthermore, ‘Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself.’ Hebrews 13:8 (The Message)

As this series draws to a close, let us take time to ponder and meditate on some verses from the Book of Psalms. Choose one (or more!) and turn your chosen verse over and over in your mind and see what God reveals to you through it. You may like to take it with you into your day and to repeat it at intervals during the day.

‘For I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.’ Psalm 26:3 (NIV)

‘Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.’ Psalm 105:4 (NIV)

‘Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.’ Psalm 71:3 (NIV)

‘As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.’ Psalm 71:14 (NIV)

As this series draws to a close, you may like to recall the key insights from your time ‘Beside the Sea’ and consider how these will impact your journey of faith. Then take time to praise and thank God for the ways he has revealed himself to you, and for his provision for you.
